Preface<\/p>\n

Climate change, increasing energy demand and resource
scarcity
\n not only require a change in infrastructure and industry but also in
\nbuildings and cities with smart technologies and systems.
Research
\nand innovation crucially contribute to sustainable and energy-efficient
\nbuildings and cities. In the course of the research programme \u201cBuilding
\nof tomorrow\u201d in the last years my resort has supported many concepts and
\n key technologies for buildings. International co-operations made it
\npossible to successfully disseminate Austrian research results. Today
\nAustria plays an international pioneer role in energy-efficient
\nbuilding. The new research programme \u201eCity of tomorrow\u201c aims to face
\ncoming challenges by funding technological research and development
\nprojects of systems and services for the city of the future.
I am
\ntherefore very pleased to introduce here at the Sustainable Building
\nConference 2013 this new research programme to an international audience
\n for the first time.
Dedicated to essential questions reaching from
\nrenovating buildings and quarters to smart cities, the conference is an
\nexcellent platform to present Austrian technologies and know-how in the
\nrealms of buildings and cities.
With this in mind I wish those attending the international conference stimulant and exciting discussions!<\/p>\n
