About COST ACTION TU1404
Cement-based materials (CBM) are the
\nforemost construction materials worldwide. Therefore, there are widely
\naccepted standards for their structural applications. However, for
\nservice life designs, current approaches largely depend on CBM strength
\nclass and restrictions on CBM constituents. Consequently, the service
\nlife behaviour of CBM structures is still analyzed with insufficiently
\nrigorous approaches that are based on outdated scientific knowledge,
\nparticularly regarding the cumulative behaviour since early ages. This
\nresults in partial client satisfaction at the completion stage,
\nincreased maintenance\/repair costs from early ages, and reduced service
\nlife of structures, with consequential economic\/sustainability impacts.
\nDespite significant research advances that have been achieved in the
\nlast decade in testing and simulation of CBM and thereby predicting
\ntheir service life performance, there have been no generalized
\nEuropean-funded Actions to assure their incorporation in standards
\navailable to designes\/contractors.
The main purpose of COST TU1404
\nAction is to bring together relevant stakeholders (experimental and
\nnumerical researchers,standardization
\noffices,manufacturers,designers,contractors,owners and authorities) in
\norder to accelerate knowledge transfer in the form of new
\nguidelines\/recommendations, introduce new products and technologies to
\nthe market, and promote international and inter-speciality exchange of
